The ASTRA Satellite Audience

ASTRA Coverage

European Klassik Rock's main coverage was via the ASTRA 1C satellite. The footprint of this satellite stretches from the tip of Northern Africa in the south through to Russia in the east and Scandinavia in the north. Direct to home reception of the ASTRA satellite is now a part of everyday life throughout Europe and, for many people, it would be hard to imagine life without their satellite receiver.

The choice of the ASTRA 1C satellite and the Channel 35 audio sub-carriers 7.38 and 7.56 MHz meant European Klassik was available to every household which could receive ASTRA satellite TV via a dish. A push of a button took them automatically from Sky News or Eurosport directly to our programming.

Mid Year figures for 1997 recorded more than 68 million households throughout Europe were able to receive programming from the ASTRA satellite (source : Société Européenne des Satellites). Note that these are the number of households and when converted into total numbers of individuals the number represented hundreds of millions of potential listeners to ASTRA satellite radio.

In addition to European Klassik Rock's direct to home service to satellite receiver owners, the station secured approval from the majority of the major UK cable companies to distribute its service via their cable networks throughout the UK.
