Alton started his broadcasting
"all at sea" on Radio Caroline. Having mastered his sea legs,
Alton moved to Radio Top Shop in Oxford Circus which he recalls
as being one of the best jobs he has had as the radio studios
were situated just by the girls' changing rooms - the mind boggles!
Nonetheless, it seems that this attraction was not enough and
that the "sand and sea" elements were missing because Alton next
moved on to the Cote D'Azur during 1985 to present on Riviera
Radio. In October 1986, he was given the chance to go and work
for the mighty 208 Radio Luxembourg - a job which he embraced
with relish remaining there for 2 years. On returning to England,
he worked presented the afternoon show for Red Rose Radio in Lancashire.
However, the lure of the exotic world of travel remained strong
and 13 months later Alton got himself a job with BFBS which enabled
him to travel the world for free! However, he did not always get
sent to the best holiday destinations and, for a while, found
himself broadcasting to the Gulf during the Gulf War. Alton started
presenting part-time on European Klassik Rock in October 1997
and during Spring 1998 became our regular weekday Night Tracks
presenter.
